The instructional use of the ELMO document Camera in and out of the classroom
full_class.JPG

Description: In this presentation, you will see various uses of the ELMO Document Camera. I use the camera daily throughout my whole group instruction. As a teacher of Math and Science, I find that it is critical that I model the appropriate way to read and analyze information text and how to outline important information. Furthermore, students are able to exhibit problem solving skills as we discuss solutions to questions on the screen. ELMO allows me to display images on a larger scale; I am frequently zooming in on images so that my students can see from a distance and focus on certain things.

In addition to uses in the classroom, ELMO serves as a tool to communicate with parents and the community. As the elementary coordinator for Mathematics, I facilitated a hands on information session where parents were able to acquire useful tools to assist their children at home as MSA approaches.

Reflection: Overall, I have enjoyed using the document camera in my classroom. Before I had this tool, I used a visualizer. It performed very basic functions of an output device, but it proved for limited engagement of the students. With the document camera, I am able to get the students more involved. Using the still capture and negative functions have proven to be extremely beneficial for me. Since the document camera is smaller in size, it is easier to move to. The students are more inclined to present because it has a more modern design. One of my favorite functions is the ability to zoom in on images. I have a very large class and students who sit farther away from the screen can still participate and remain engaged because they can see the large image.
